COURSE DESCRIPTION

 
 

The purpose of this course is not only to provide a refresher of imaging characteristics of common spinal pathology, concentrating on MR, CT, and biopsy techniques but also to introduce current and upcoming concepts in the management of spinal pain by emphasizing image guided interventional techniques. In addition, alternative options to interventions including medical management, pitfall avoidance, and endovascular techniques will be discussed.

 
 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 
 


At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Understand common presentations of spinal and paraspinal pathology
both inflammatory and neoplastic

• Understand and apply a wide variety of techniques to secure
a pathological diagnosis through image guided biopsy

• Understand a reasonable approach to diagnose and select appropriate
treatment for a wide variety of common spinal pain maladies

• Understand in depth the anatomical and technical aspects in the
performance of a wide variety of image guided treatment techniques
including nerve blocks, disc procedures, epidural injections, joint
injections, myofascial injections, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and
radiofrequency lesioning.

• Understand the role of spinal endovascular techniques

• Understand the dangers in performance of these procedures in an effort
to avoid potential complications
