COURSE DESCRIPTION
Body Imaging: State of the Art will focus on cutting edge topics in Body CT , MRI and Ultrasound with a strong clinical emphasis on emergency radiology , screening, oncology and imaging and problem solving in the pregnant patient.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course the attendee will be able to:
- Improve skills in body imaging procedures and interpretations
- Improve diagnostic acumen in body imaging as it especially relates to emergent, oncologic and obstetric-gynecologic imaging
- Develop a better understanding of state of the art body imaging as it relates to screening examinations
- Differentiate whole body screening from targeted screening
- Determine which patients are candidates for targeted screening
- Reinforce basic MR imaging techniques and expand upon those with current technologic breakthroughs
- Integrate CT , MR and US to develop effective and cost efficient approaches to diagnose challenging disease entities.
- Increase knowledge of US contrast agents and their clinical applications
- Become familiar with 3-D Ultrasound indications
- Increase knowledge on the role and future of Molecular Imaging
ACCREDITATION
The International Institute for Continuing Medical Education, Inc. is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
DESIGNATION
The International Institute for Continuing Medical Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.5 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Category 1 Credits may be claimed until January 1, 2009.
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Since this is a new course the needs documentation is based on the experience of Dr . Casola, the director of Body Imaging at UCSD, and the other body imaging faculty who lecture extensively at national and international society meetings. We have also had positive verbal communication from our visiting fellows and scholars. The field of Body Imaging is changing dramatically with new imaging techniques especially in the Emergency Room patient, in the screening of asymptomatic patients (CT Colonography, CT Urography, Lung CA screening, Coronary Artery screening, etc.), in the use of adominal MRI especially in the pregnant patient, and in Ultrasound with 3-D imaging and ultrasound contrast agents. Since body imaging is changing rapidly, our course will help practicing radiologists, technologists, and sonographers stay up to date with the latest advances in this area.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Practicing radilologists, radiology residents, sonographers, CT and MR technologists.
