COURSE DESCRIPTION, TARGET AUDIENCE, NEEDS ASSESSMENT
|
|
| |
This course is designed for radiologists who find themselves challenged by the new practical issues of performing successful high-quality screening, diagnostic, and interventional mammography of the next millennium. We focus on perceptive skills involved in screening. Issues related to screening are addressed by an outstanding faculty in didactic sessions, including screening perception techniques, the missed lesion, and the latest on the interpretive skills controversy. A session devoted to the diagnostic workup of screening-detected lesions, including radiologic-pathologic correlation, and the ever-increasing role of ultrasound and other modalities is included.
NEWLY EXPANDED is a mini-course on breast MR, featuring two of the country's leading authorities on the practical applications of Breast MRI in everyday practice. They cover a broad spectrum of topics relevant to the novice as well as the expert in Breast MRI.
In response to the demands for a formal "Question and Answer" session, we expanded the meeting adding a session entitled, "Breakfast with the Faculty", which is devoted completely to faculty responses to attendees' questions. Participants will leave with a firm blueprint for mapping their efficiency and skill in breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and interventional procedures in their daily breast imaging practice.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
|
|
| |
By the end of this course, registrants will be able to:
• Apply new and improved skills in perception to the interpretation of screening mammograms.
• Gain a greater appreciation of the importance of meticulous perception techniques in the detection of subtle early breast cancer.
• Develop strategies to reduce the possibility of a missed lesion at screening.
• Perform a more comprehensive evaluation of screening detected abnormalities, including appropriate use of special views, ultrasound, MRI, and other modalities.
• Appraise the current status of interventional breast procedures, especially core biopsy.
• Perform the techniques of stereotactic and ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy of the breast.
• Delineate the new role of Breast MRI in the everyday practice of breast imaging.
• Appreciate the new role of computer-assisted detection and the potential place of full-field digital mammography in screening.
